IT system protection & security...
Protecting your IT systems can take a number of different forms, each of which has its place in making sure your information technology and your vital data is protected from harm or loss.
Power Protection
So often overlooked but a vital part of layered protection. IT systems need clean power and a way of recovering without loss or corruption in the event of power surge or failure. Most systems should have some form of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
We use only APC systems from Schneider - they offer the most robust power protection system on the market. Importantly, they offer a means whereby the server and the UPS can communicate and take decisions in the background.
The UPS sits between the server and the mains electricity supply. It takes out any spikes or "brown outs" (temporary loss of voltage). In the event of a power cut the battery will cut in:
- For a short outage this means no loss of service
- For a longer outage the UPS will "talk to" the server and tell it to shut down in a controlled way; meaning that the server can be safely re-booted without data corruption even when the server is midway through processing.
Anti Virus/Internet Protection & Firewalls
Most companies recognise that some form of protection is required against internet borne threats. Normally, that means antivirus, however, the fact is that the nature of online threats is constantly evolving, with harmful malware designed to harm your system or gain entry to your commercial material appearing in a range of guises.
For this reason we recommend that a layered approach is taken to ensure that the best protection is offered against the widest range of threats.
Back Up
A number of back up options are available from good old fashioned tape through to removeable discs and online systems. We can perform routine backup checks to make sure that the system works and we can be alerted if a scheduled back up has not taken place for whatever reason. Many back up issues arise due to setup problems, so we make sure that all of the relevant data is included in the backup routine. We can perform restore tests to demonstrate to you that your back up system is thorough and robust.
